Mr. Akulian is a top rated attorney! I was facing mandatory jail time for a DUI and thanks to Mr. Akulian, the case was resolved without jail time and very little impact and/or disruption to my daily life.

I am a legal practitioner based in the United Kingdom. I was arrested after making a decision of poor judgement whilst on vacation in Washington DC. Consequently I had to attend court proceedings for the charges of Solicitation and Failure To Appear. Now as a Non-US national I found the experience frightening, undergoing trial in a foreign country was incredibly overwhelming. David Akulian quite simply is an outstanding criminal attorney and I would doubt any man that told he could find better in Washington DC. Mr Akulian takes the time to understand his client and does his utmost to deliver the best possible result. I can not recommend David Akulian highly enough, his service and professionalism in unparalleled. I am not somebody who feels comfortable expressing personal opinion publicly over social media, however I felt that I had to make an exception in this circumstance. I feel indebted to Mr Akulian and I hope my recommendation will help somebody else who may unfortunately require legal representation in Washington DC.

David is a very knowledgeable and well respected attorney. This became apparent to me during his representation of me and my case. During all of my court proceedings, other attorneys, judges and law enforcement personnel exhibited a profound level of respect, admiration and camaraderie with him. Throughout my entire ordeal (extremely stressful for me), he was very professional, courteous and supportive. I highly recommend David Akulian! I am so grateful for his services. His integrity and work ethics are qualities that more attorneys should have. Know that he will fight for you and ensure the best outcome. He will also take the time to explain anything to you and answer all of your questions. Don't worry about watching the clock; his rates are fair. David, thank you for everything! I'm so glad I picked you. I knew immediately that your heart and dedication to fighting for what's right was what I needed.

I had a legal matter to resolve from out of state. I reached out to several attorneys, but Mr. Akulian called me back within hours of contacting his office. He was extremely open to establishing a correspondence from across the country, answered all my questions, and returned every email; often the same day. I got the sense from him, that he honestly and truly wanted to help me. He was very professional throughout the whole process. I found his assessments and perceptions of how my case might unfold to be very accurate. Nobody can "know" for sure of course, but he prepared me in such a manner that I was not caught off guard by any of the proceedings. I also thought his business practice was very sound. I paid "X-amount" up front, to cover the issue from start to finish. If my case resolved in a more minimal nature, I would be refunded any unused portions of my retainer. True to his word, and nearly 3 months after making first contact, we walked out of the courtroom together, shook hands, and he handed me a check. I was actually refunded more than the amount I paid the man. It's not often that you come across an honest business person anymore. So to summarize, I found Mr. Akulian to be a very professional, punctual, courteous, caring, and an honest business man. It's almost a shame that our relationship is over. Aside from my legal matter being stressful, the experience with Mr. Akulian was rather pleasant. I would recommend his services to anybody.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
