Hired Law firm 2022-2023The worse attorney ever. Court date was back in May of last year the judge granted my divorce. Jeff had told me and is written in my divorce decree the ex husband is responsible of paying all expenses and fees. I’ve already paid half upfront and my ex husband was going to pay the other half. Jeff has not filed any of my paperwork 6 months later won’t respond to any calls or emails I’ve been trying to reach out for weeks to pay because obviously my ex husband is not going to pay especially when Jeff is not even trying to send him the invoice. This man has yelled and screamed at my on the phone numerous times with me just calling and asking for an update. He must of forgot who paid him the half down and hired him. I really pray I could go back in time and choose another attorney. Now I had to hire another attorney just to get my paperwork from him and finalize my divorce. Stay far away from this man and his receptionist has the nastiest attitude, doesn’t relay messages either. Basically if you hire this man you’ll be throwing your money in the trash.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
