    Hired Law firm 2017
As I fought Louisiana's Largest White Collar Crime case in the history of Louisiana, I hired Sarah A. Johnson to join my extensive legal team... HUGE mistake... Sarah added zero actual legal value to the team of attorneys. There was always an excuse why after billing extensive hours for researching and drafting motions/appeals which were needed quickly and often due to it being a very large and broad multi-jurisdictional case, Sarah would fizzle out and find a reason not to file the motion/appeal timely which I'd already paid enormous amounts of money for her to perform the research and draft. It was a great way to bill hours but ultimately a waste of resources and time which also caused delay and more time fighting a case that a new legal team resolved in just a few short months, bringing me to victory and home to my family from behind bars fighting the case. What a racket it was... sucking up as much money and running things in circles while showing up sipping a Starbucks and eating a banana worried about her image more than the case at hand. I was consistently overcharged and over-billed until the remaining legal team was tired of the dead weight added by Sarah and her not being able to add any actual value or meet her deadlines or bring all the work-product to final fruition. It was like having a high-priced princess on the team when I was facing the fight of a lifetime... 164 Felonies in 4 Parishes and 1,465 years of potential jail time. After firing her and trying to get the escrow money back and duplicate over-billed charges while I was fighting the battle from behind bars, Sarah refused to be honest and reconcile her charges because she knew I was not in a position to pursue her... Once I ended up beating the largest white-collar crime case with a new legal team and a 22-month fight... I was released from jail and she knew she was in major trouble as my attorney and I had to threaten to report her to the LA Bar Association she quickly apologized, and refunded me her unscrupulous billings. I guess she thought it was her opportunity to get a short-term loan, hoping maybe it would turn into being long-term if I didn't win. Buyer Beware!! I'll be glad to discuss the details personally with anyone who wants more details and proof before making the same mistake.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
