This designation requires a peer review process and successful completion of an exam similar to the bar exam but exclusively in the area of family law. The practice area of family law includes a wide variety of legal issues such as adoption, child custody, child support, alimony, equitable distribution (marital property), military family issues, collaborative family law, domestic violence, and many others.
