A Career Devoted to Defending the People's Rights
My goal in my professional life has been to help people facing legal difficulties, whether it is criminal charges or other matters. When I moved here to Eugene after graduating from law school, I spent five years with Lane County Legal Aid Service, handling a full caseload of clients facing crisis in divorce, custody dispute, eviction, and denial of disability and employment benefits.
In 1994, I was offered a chance to serve with the Public Defender Service of Lane County. Over the next six years, I successfully represented hundreds of defendants against all types of misdemeanor, felony, and Measure 11 charges, including charges of rape, assault, robbery, burglary, property crimes, charges of criminal mistreatment, and murder.
I opened my private law practice in 2003, determined to accept a limited number of cases to ensure thorough, dedicated and detailed defense of each client. Since that time, I have represented clients throughout Oregon in federal, state, and municipal courts on all types of criminal charges.
If you face felony or misdemeanor charges, talk to me before you talk to the police. Call the Laura A. Fine, P. C. now for a free consultation at toll-free at 888-309-4560. You can also contact me by e-mail.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
