4.5 out of 5 stars

We never anticipated the need for estate planning. However, sometimes life throws you a curve ball! Stephen put us at ease and we came to trust his knowledge and ability to fulfill our particular needs. None of our meetings were rushed, and Stephen did his best to explain the process and make recommendations. The office team is very gracious and a pleasure to work with.

Stephen made us feel very comfortable and helped us meet our objectives in setting up our estate. He was very patient while listening to our concerns and took the time to explain the process in detail. He also clearly defined what needed to be done by us in an outlined detailed letter, which is always good when trying to remember the details of our meetings and any instructions we may have forgotten to do. He has a wonderful courteous staff who also followed up on any questions we may have had while Stephen was working with another client. We enjoyed working with this law firm and feel we made the right decisions.

My experience with the law firm was friendly, supporting, and informative. Having never undertaken such a daunting legal endeavor, I believe they went out of their way to guide me through what was a challenging legal process. And they have maintained that commitment even after the initial process. I feel that they made my foray into the estate planning process as understandable as they could. Many thanks to the team and I'm sure we will continue the relationship moving forward.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
