Barbara P. Fratila re-joined the Gilbert & Furey law firm in Angleton, Texas in 2007 after serving nine years as Assistant General Counsel of the Port of Houston Authority of Harris County, Texas. Barbara had previously worked at Gilbert & Furey from 1982 until 1997.

Barbara currently works in the areas of estate planning, wills, trusts and probate matters; corporate, contract, and real estate transactional work, including environmental aspects of real estate transactions. While at the Port of Houston Authority, Barbara worked with all divisions with major concentration in engineering and real estate contract matters.

Barbara received her B.A. with High Honors from the University of Maryland in 1973 and her J.D. from South Texas College of Law in 1990 where she was a member of the Wood Inn of the International Legal Honors Fraternity of Phi Delta Phi and the Order of the Lytae. She received her LL.M. with a concentration in Energy, Environmental and Natural Resources law from the University of Houston in 2006. Her thesis to fulfill the LL.M. program requirements was entitled, "The Texas Gulf Coast is For the Birds."

Barbara currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Community Foundation of Brazoria County and as Chairman of the Environmental Committee of the Friends of the River (FOR) San Bernard. In the past, she has served on the Board of Directors of the Brazoria County Bar Association and the Gulf Coast Bird Observatory.

Barbara is a member of the State Bar of Texas and its Estate Planning and Probate, Real Estate, and Environmental Law sections; the Brazoria County Bar Association; the Texas Association of Environmental Professionals; and the American Association of Port Authorities.

Barbara and her husband, Nick, live on the San Bernard River in Brazoria, Texas.
