Barry O. Hines graduated in 1969 from the University of Illinois with a Bachelor of Science in Accountancy and received his Juris Doctor in 1972 from the University of Illinois School of Law. He is a sole proprietor in Springfield, Illinois concentrating his law practice in the areas of estate planning, commercial real estate, agricultural law and related litigation.
Mr. Hines has authored numerous legal publications including “Land Trusts, Succession Planning, & Other Estate Planning Issues Involving Farmland” (2013) for the Illinois Institute for Continuing Legal Education; “Hot Topics in Agricultural Law”: Cash, Variable Cash, Production & Share Leases: Issues & Forms, Donald L. Uchtmann & Barry O. Hines (2008), “Illinois Boundary Law” (2016) and “Private Rail Crossings” (2019) for the Illinois State Bar Association and taped for the ISBA Quick Take Video Series a segment on Illinois Boundary Law (2017) and with Andrew White a segment on “Illinois Farm Leases” (2019); and “Planning for a Full or Partial Outright Sale or Gift of Farmland” (2013), “Agricultural Use Valuation,”(2013) and “Probate Litigation” (2015) for the National Business Institute.
In 2014 through 2020 Mr. Hines’s legal peers recommended him as the number one of the Top 10 Leading Agricultural Lawyers in Illinois and in 2015, 2019 and 2020, Mr. Hines’s legal peers recommended him as the number one of the Top 10 Leading Downstate: Real Estate-Related Lawyers in Illinois, all as published by Leading Lawyer Magazine. He is recipient of the ISBA Board of Governors Award in 2018.
