Pierce is a dedicated victim's advocate and promoter of highway safety. She has traveled to Washington D.C. where she testified before lawmakers on the rules governing the hours of service, the need to keep rest areas open, and for tougher laws and stricter enforcement. Since 1994 Pierce has served as North Carolina's point of contact for Parents Against Tired Truckers (P.A.T.T.), a grassroots organization made up of families of other truck crash victims which serves as a strong safety advocacy group.
