Brenden is an active member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, American Bar Association, Atlantic County Bar Association, The National Trial Lawyers, Cape May County Bar Association, New Jersey State Bar Association and the NRA.
He received his Juris Doctor Degree from Rutgers School of Law - Camden. While attending law school, Mr. Shur was honored as a Top-10 Oralist and Octofinalist in The Honorable James Hunter III Memorial Advanced Moot Court Competition. Prior to attending Rutgers Law School, Mr. Shur had a successful career in journalism. During that time, Mr. Shur worked as a reporter for the Press of Atlantic City and the Ocean County Observer. While at the Ocean County Observer, Mr. Shur was a beat reporter assigned to covering police and courts. As a result, Mr. Shur spent countless hours observing and reporting on various criminal trials, including capital murder cases. It was after observing court proceedings for several years that he became motivated to obtain his Juris Doctor and get into the legal arena. His reporting earned him a commendation from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office for his accuracy in reporting. During law school, Mr. Shur also volunteered at the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, using the skills he learned as a cook while earning his way through college to prepare food for the homeless and destitute.
Mr. Shur believes the legal profession and journalism have much in common. He utilizes the skills of research and writing, which are the hallmarks of a good journalist, to vigorously defend his clients. He believes that the best way to manage a situation is to get out in front of a problem and create a framework within which the case will be viewed by all parties. By using this technique, Mr. Shur is often able to obtain remarkable results as he creates a narrative for his clients to humanize them to the prosecutors.
