Brian T. Cartwright is board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. Brian was named a “Texas Super Lawyer” as published by Thomson Reuters for Texas Monthly Magazine in 2016 to the present, and has been a Preeminent, AV Peer Review Rated Attorney by Martindale-Hubbell, which is the highest rating for ethics and legal ability. Brian is a past President of the Denton County Bar Association, leaving office in 2005; and is a current member of the Denton County Bar Association Real Estate, Trust and Probate Law Section. The law firm of Alagood & Cartwright, P.C., was voted best of Denton, 2012, Best Law Firm, by the readers of the Denton Record Chronicle, finishing in the top-2 Law Firms. Brian previously served on the City of Highland Village, Texas Charter Review Committee, and the Finance Committee at Highland Village First Baptist Church. Brian is a Commissioner on the Denton County Civil Service Commission and is on the Board of Directors of Cumberland Presbyterian Children's Home. He was also vice president of the Lewisville Noon Rotary Club.
Brian is the son of an Air Force fighter pilot who grew up all over the world. After graduating high school near Langley Air Force Base, Virginia, Brian attended Texas A&M University on an Air Force ROTC Scholarship. While a student, Brian was a decorated member and leader in the Corp of Cadets, being the commanding officer of Squadron 15; a member of the Ross Volunteer Company who are the official Honor Guard for the Governor of Texas; a member of the State Champion Texas Aggie Fish Drill Team; a Distinguished Military Graduate; and a recipient of the Legion of Valor Bronze Cross given to the Top-5 ROTC Cadets in the Nation. Brian also devoted himself to his academic studies while at Texas A&M making the Dean’s List, and being inducted into the Political Science Honor Society, Corps Honor Society, Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, Mortar Board and being one of two students selected by the University to represent the school in the Harry S. Truman National Scholarship competition. Brian graduated with high honors from Texas A&M in 1984 with a degree in political science.
After Texas A&M, Brian attended Texas Tech Law School where he graduated with honors in 1987. Brian was a published member of the Law Review and a two-year member of the National Mock Trial Team, winning the Regional Finals and making it to the National Quarter Final Round of the National Competition in 1987. Before graduating, Brian was inducted into the prestigious Order of the Barristers and received the Trial Advocacy Award from the International Academy of Trial Lawyers.
After law school, Brian served four years in the United States Air Force in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps, successfully trying over 50 jury trials. Brian was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Air Force Trial Advocacy Award.
After achieving the rank of Captain, Brian left the service and began private practice. Brian has primarily represented clients in civil litigation, including personal injury, real estate, business, contract, DTPA, and employment law cases. Brian also represents clients in Will and Probate law, including drafting wills and related documents; and employment law matters, including violations of Federal Law relating to overtime compensation, non-compete agreements and severance agreements.
Brian strives to address his client’s needs as quickly and efficiently as possible to achieve optimal results for his clients. He believes that aggressive representation balanced with common sense assists clients in reaching practical solutions for their real legal needs.
