She is a Past President of the Savannah Bar Association. Ms. Bowman has been chosen by the Georgia Business Community as a Legal Elite in the practice of Employment Law on numerous occasions.
Ms. Bowman understands that an effective litigation attorney is one who combines persuasion with technical skill, hard work and zealousness; an even more effective litigation lawyer is one who has an excellent rapport with the plaintiff and the defense bar, as well as the medical community; and the most effective attorney is one that accomplishes all of this at reasonable prices and bills fairly.
Creative problem-solving and innovation have never been more important in the practice of law. Whether drafting an employment law manual for a newly formed company or appearing in court on a litigation matter, The Bowman Law Office remains true to the firm's founding vision - the practice of law with uncompromising integrity and an insistence on obtaining the best possible results for our clients.
Ms. Bowman was admitted to the bar in 1987, and began practicing civil litigation, primarily insurance defense, in the areas of casualty, professional malpractice and healthcare, and worker's compensation, representing insurers and companies, such as American International Group, CNA Insurance Group, Cotton States Mutual Insurance Company, Georgia Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company, Gulf Insurance Group, OUM & Associates, Inc., Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., Philadelphia Insurance Company, Reliance Insurance Company, Rite-Aid Corporation and Zurich Insurance Company. Shortly after Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was amended, Catherine Bowman began to practice Employment Law as well, originally as an attorney for the Employee, and then expanding her practice to include the Employer. As an attorney for the Employer, Ms. Bowman has represented such companies and organizations as Air Frame Component Repair, American Greetings Corporation, American International Group, Bulloch County School System, Canoochee Electric Membership Cooperative, City of Baxley, CNA Insurance Group, Data Systems International, Inc, Greenbriar Children's Center, Hawthorne Suites, International Paper Company, John S. How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
