Hammond Criminal Law Lawyer

Overview

Christian is a recent transplant to Northwestern Indiana and the newest associate at Efron, Efron & Yahne. He grew up in central Indiana, near Marion, and is thus quite familiar with soybeans and cornfields. A 1999 graduate of Oak Hill High School, he went on to study at Ball State University, where he triple-majored in English, German and Philosophy. After graduating from Ball State in 2003, Christian went on to study at Indiana University's Maurer School of Law and at IU's School of Public and Environmental Affairs in Bloomington. While there, he was an active participant in the Sherman Minton Moot Court Competition, finishing as a Quarterfinalist and serving on the moot court board. He was also an Articles Editor for the Indiana Journal of Global Legal Studies. Never one to shy from adventure, Christian completed his first legal internship with a small law firm in western Africa, where he learned that traditional lawyers' white wigs and black robes might easily mix with dusty courtyards filled with errant chickens and goats. A continuing interest in German culture and European issues led Christian to serve as IU Law's first exchange student to the Friedrich-Schiller University in Jena, Germany, where he spent a semester. Before graduating from Indiana University, he also spent three months as an intern with the Monroe County Prosecutor's Office, gaining experience in both the juvenile and traffic courts and building his familiarity with criminal law.

After graduating law school in 2008, Christian completed both the Indiana and Illinois bar examinations, and immediately prior to joining Efron, Efron & Yahne, he served as an intern at the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, researching privacy issues, legal issues in emergency management, and sensitive-but-unclassified information. He was also afforded the opportunity to shadow one of Grant County's Superior Court Judges, gaining behind-the-bench insights into small-claims and criminal law matters.

In his free time, Christian enjoys reading, learning languages, and travel. He has also been known to make attempts at playing the guitar and piano.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
