Tampa Car/Trucking/Motorcycle Accidents Lawyer

Overview

Firm founder Cody Fowler Davis, a Tampa native, received his B.A., cum laude, from Vanderbilt University in 1981 and his Juris Doctorate degree, from Florida State College of Law in 1984. Upon his graduation from Florida State College of Law, Cody accepted a position as an Associate with the prestigious Tampa civil defense firm of Macfarlane, Ferguson & McMullen P.A., eventually becoming the youngest Partner and Board of Director Member in the firm's history. In 2001, Cody founded Davis & Harmon, P.A., where he was the President and Managing Partner until 2010.

Cody comes from a family deeply involved in law. His grandfather, Cody Fowler, was the founder of the Fowler, White law firm and served as President of the American Bar Association. His father James was a Judge and Law School Professor. Cody's brother Jim served as House Majority leader of the Florida Legislature and was President of the Freshman Democratic class during his twelve years of service in the United States House of Representatives.

Recently, Cody formed CODY FOWLER DAVIS TRIAL ATTORNEYS, P.A., which is a boutique civil litigation firm emphasizing personal service. The firm is structured with driven attorneys who have successful track records in the courtroom. Cody draws on his past experience of representing large insurance companies on a myriad of complex matters to now advocate in good part on behalf of seriously injured individuals who have fallen victim to catastrophic personal injury. The firm also focuses on cases involving business/commercial disputes. Over the past 25 years, Cody has successfully recovered millions of dollars on behalf of his clients and their families in both personal injury and business/commercial matters.

Cody is one of the few attorneys in Florida to be Board Certified by the Florida Bar in both Civil Trial Law and Business Litigation Law. Cody has also gone on to receive a Board Certification by the National Board of Trial Advocacy in Boston, Massachusetts in the area of Civil Trial Advocacy. In addition, Cody is a Certified Circuit Court mediator and Federal Court mediator. Cody has been lead counsel in jury trials in Federal Court and in Circuit Court in the following counties: Hillsborough, Pinellas, Polk, Pasco, Manatee, Sarasota, Orange, Duval, Highlands and Sumter.

When Cody is not zealously advocating on behalf of his clients, you can find him lecturing other attorneys around the state in matters involving Civil Trial Law and testifying as an expert in both State and Federal Court on behalf of lawyers, companies, and The Florida Bar.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
