Dain C. Akin recently joined Akin Law Group LLC after a 20 year career as in-house counsel. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Akin served as General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Paramount Financial Group, a former subsidiary of General Motors Acceptance Corporation, where he represented the company in multi-tier financing transactions, low income housing tax credit syndications, and in general corporate matters. Earlier, he was corporate Director of Taxation, Associate General Counsel, and Acting General Counsel and Vice President of Lexford, Inc. (now, Equity Residential Trust). He also has eight years of public accounting experience with Ernst and Young in Cleveland, Ohio, where he advised real estate investment limited partnership and real estate investment clients.
Mr. Akin holds a Bachelors of Science in Business Administration from Miami (Ohio) University, a Juris Doctor from Ohio Northern Claude Pettit College of Law, and a Masters of Laws in Taxation (LLM Tax) from the University of Florida College of Law. He is admitted to practice law in the states of Ohio (1978) and Florida (1991), the United States Tax Court, the United States District Court for the Southern District of Ohio, the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio and the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He is also a Certified Public Accountant (inactive status). He is a member of the Florida Bar, the Columbus Bar Association, and the Ohio Bar Association (Corporate Counsel and Real Property Law Sections).
Mr. Akin applies his extensive knowledge and experience assisting firm clients in business entity selection and representation, tax credit real estate development, corporate mergers and acquisitions, real estate restructuring, business workouts and bankruptcy, and general corporate and partnership taxation matters.
