Overview
Los Angeles Immigration Lawyer with Over 16 years’ Experience
An immigrant herself, Attorney Kapur from a young age, knew that she wanted to advocate for those who were not adept at doing for themselves. She wants to be the voice of silenced people, and they will realize just how strong they are. She further understands the American dream and works vigorously with each of her clients, knowing what it means to have a legalized status in the United States and eventually having the privilege of becoming a United States Citizen.
Attorney Gita B. Kapur received her Bachelor of Arts degree with an emphasis in Political Science from the California State University of Pomona in 1999. She obtained her Juris Doctor from Southwestern University School of Law, placing her in the top 20 percent of the class. Ms. Kapur is a member of the California State Bar since 2002. She is currently a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association and the American Immigration Lawyers Association.
Attorney Kapur began her legal career as an immigration attorney with a fast-paced, dynamic firm that solely practiced immigration law representing aliens in removal/deportation proceedings from 2004 till 2006. During her tenure at the law firm, she witnessed how people in removal/deportation proceedings are so vulnerable without competent attorneys. The stakes are incredibly high, the law notoriously complex, and the government pays a trained prosecutor to advocate the immigrant's deportation. Her passion was to build an immigration practice that advocates for its client zealously and recognizes each case as unique and fact-specific and treats each client and matter as deserving of individualized attention without cutting corners. Moreover, she fervently wanted people to afford to hire an attorney by offering reasonable prices and payment plans.
Based on the foregoing vision, Attorney Kapur began her boutique law firm practicing only immigration law. She has litigated extensively and successfully in many areas of immigration law such as Removal/Deportation proceedings, Cancellation of Removal, Adjustment of Status, Consular Processing, Immigration Waivers, U and T Visas, VAWA (Violence Against Women Act), SIJS (Special Immigrant Juvenile Status), Asylum, Withholding of Removal and Relief under the Convention Against Torture, Citizenship matters, and Appeals. Attorney Kapur has further achieved excellent results in representing people over post-conviction relief and Writ of Mandamus.
Attorney Kapur’s years of experience and expertise, coupled with treating each case with individualized attention and commitment to excellence and thoughtful approach to diverse matters, sets her apart from other immigration lawyers. She vigorously works in preparing her clients before the tribunal, including but not limited to the Immigration Court, USCIS (the United States Citizenship Immigration & Services), Department of State, District Court of California, Superior Court of California. Attorney Kapur prepares her client for direct examination as well as for cross-examination by conducting comprehensive research of the client’s facts and circumstances, including but not limited to accessing government files, background checks, court dockets, and reviewing them carefully with a respective client.
Lastly, Attorney Kapur keeps both herself and her team abreast of any immigration law changes and policies to serve her client better and provide honest and reliable legal guidance. She continues educating herself via attending various seminars and conferences throughout the year and reading daily immigrations news. As a member of both the American Immigration Lawyer Association (AILA) and Los Angeles County Bar Association (LACBA), Attorney Kapur also has access to the experience of over 14,000 other attorneys nationwide. If your situation is particularly complex, she reached out to them before handling it. Therefore, she can look for trends in the laws to better develop a client’s case strategies and strives to achieve the best results for her clients as Attorney Kapur understands their plight to legalize their status.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
