Overview
Heidi Hosmer is an Atlanta native. She joined J. Franklin Burns, P.C. in 2019 after working for many years doing insurance defense work in Atlanta. Mrs. Hosmer was born and raised in Atlanta. She received a B.A. in Anthropology, with minors in French and Economics, in 1998 from Emory University and a Juris Doctor from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2001.
Mrs. Hosmer has practiced law since 2001, focusing solely in workers’ compensation. She began her career as a staff attorney and certified mediator at the Georgia State Board of Workers’ Compensation where she mediated hundreds of cases, assisted in writing opinions and performing legal research and worked with Administrative Law Judges in the Atlanta office of the State Board. She spent over 13 years practicing workers’ compensation defense law at 2 big Atlanta defense firms, so she knows how Employers and Insurance companies approach and handle workers’ compensation cases, and knows many of the attorneys and doctors involved in these claims.
Representing injured workers is a cause near and dear to Mrs. Hosmer’s heart, having had family members who have been through the Georgia Workers’ Compensation system personally after suffering on the job injuries.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
