Overview
Ivan Puchalt's trial practice focuses on catastrophic personal injury, insurance bad faith, products liability, wrongful death and municipal liability. He handles high profile, complex cases and has helped clients to obtain multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements against Fortune 500 Corporations, as well as State and City governmental entities.
Recent notable trials include a $4.2 million dollar verdict in the insurance bad faith case Kieffer vs. UNUM, and a $7.6 million dollar verdict in Michael Burke vs. City of San Diego. The Burke case, which involved a fallen palm tree owned by the City of San Diego, was named a Daily Journal "Top Verdict" of 2012 for its expected impact on municipalities' policies regarding tree trimming and maintenance. As part of the trial team in the Burke case, Ivan was co-nominated by Consumer Attorneys of California for its prestigious 2012 California Trial Lawyer of the Year award.
Formerly, Ivan worked as a litigation support expert on behalf of plaintiffs' lawyers, utilizing digital media to persuasively present evidence to juries throughout California. He assisted Firm partner Christine D. Spagnoli in preparing visual materials used in a 1999 case against General Motors which resulted in a $4.9 billion jury verdict.
Ivan earned a B.A. degree in History magna cum laude from the University of California at Berkeley in 1998. In 2006, Ivan received his J.D. degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles. Ivan is a member of the State Bar of California. Ivan recently served as an at large board member with Consumer Attorneys of California where he has been committed to working on legislation to assist consumers and injury victims.
A United States citizen, Ivan was born in Brazil. He is fluent in Spanish. He enjoys traveling, musical composition and recording, soccer and basketball.
Ivan, his wife Ayana and two children reside in Santa Monica.
