Janay Farmer is an associate attorney practicing exclusively immigration law, with a focus on complex removal defense, humanitarian processes, and family-based immigration matters. Ms. Farmer graduated from the University of Washington School of Law. Following law school, Janay worked as an Assistant Professor of Law at Haramaya University School of Law in Ethiopia. Upon returning to the United States, Janay worked and voluteered at numerous human rights and immigration-focused nonprofit organizations in New York City, including MADRE, Girl Rising, Immigration Equality, and the NYC Housing Court, as well as the HIV Law Project at Housing works, where she provided direct immigration and public benefits representation to low income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS.
Ms. Farmer joined Hanis Irvine Prothero in June 2019 as an Associate Immigration attorney. She continues to represent French-speaking asylees Pro Bono for the Northwest Immigrant Rights Project, and is a frequent volunteer with the King County Bar Association immigration clinics and Centro Rendu. Ms. Farmer is fluent in French and conversant in Spanish and American Sign Language.
