Jeff's personal decorations from his active service include being awarded the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal three times, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
As a Marine lawyer, Jeff earned a reputation as a tough and knowledgeable trial attorney whose advice was frequently sought from his fellow attorneys. In 2006, he had the opportunity to deploy with an infantry battalion in combat to Fallujah, Iraq, where he advised on rules of engagement, detainee operations, and was recognized as the most effective battalion judge advocate in the area of operations during that deployment.
