Overview
John J. Rosenberg brings more than four decades of litigation experience to the firm. Mr. Rosenberg, who earned a B.A. in Music (with a concentration in Ethnomusicology) from Brown University, graduated summa cum laude and first in his class from Boston University School of Law in 1979. Following his graduation, Mr. Rosenberg served as a law clerk to the Honorable Levin H. Campbell of the United States Court of Appeals for the First Circuit. At the conclusion of his clerkship, Mr. Rosenberg was selected to participate in the United States Department of Justice Honors Program, in the Department's criminal division. In 1981, Mr. Rosenberg was appointed an Assistant United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, where he received extensive litigation and trial experience. Mr. Rosenberg left the United States Attorney's Office in 1984 and, for over thirty years, he has been engaged in the private practice of commercial, business and entertainment litigation. Immediately preceding his co-founding of Rosenberg & Giger in 2007, Mr. Rosenberg was the Chairman of the Entertainment and Media Litigation Group at Sullivan & Worcester LLP.
Mr. Rosenberg represents some of the most visible and well-known recording and performing artists, as well as producers, managers, talent agencies, concert promoters, music publishers, record labels and other individuals and entities involved in the music business. He also represents numerous individuals and entities involved in the film and television industries, including internationally recognized directors, producers and content creators. Mr. Rosenberg has been named a New York "Superlawyer" every year since 2007 in the Entertainment field and has been designated one of "The Best Lawyers in America." In addition to his entertainment litigation practice, Mr. Rosenberg maintains a national commercial and business litigation practice, through which he represents individuals, entrepreneurs and entities involved in a wide range of business and commercial activities. Mr. Rosenberg is an extremely experienced trial lawyer, who has tried cases in federal and state courts in numerous jurisdictions throughout the country. In addition, Mr. Rosenberg is an accomplished musician who appeared on Bo Diddley's Grammy-nominated "Man Amongst Men" album and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones' platinum selling "Let's Face It" album and was the guitarist in the "house band" for the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary After Party, backing up Elvis Costello, Michael Bolton and Prince, among others.
