John Marwell was with the firm for 40 years. While in active practice, Mr. Marwell counseled clients with commercial and real estate interests with property law issues arising out of real estate development. Helping his clients navigate the State Environmental Quality Review Act, local zoning ordinances, NYC watershed regulations and state regulations, he represented clients before legislative, planning and zoning boards, obtaining approvals for residential, commercial and adaptive reuse development projects throughout the region.
Mr. Marwell successfully challenged proposed municipal rezoning initiatives. He was also in the forefront of issues surrounding the development of affordable housing in the region.
He litigated in the State courts, and successfully served as lead counsel in several cases of statewide significance and national interest, from the trial courts to the highest appellate courts.
Mr. Marwell had the honor of serving as a Vice President of the New York State Bar Association from 2007 – 2011; was a member of its Executive Committee since 2007; and was in its House of Delegates. He is a past president of the Westchester County Bar Association and the Westchester County Bar Foundation. He has lectured on litigation, professional ethics, land use and zoning, property rights and environmental law matters at bar associations and other professional conferences.
