Overview

John D. Steel is the senior partner of Steel & Moss, LLP. For more than 30 years, he has dedicated his career to being a trial lawyer, and has specialized in civil cases focusing on serious injuries, wrongful death, railroad claims as well as individual business or contract disputes. He has obtained multi-million dollar settlements and jury verdicts for clients across the Southeast and Mid-West. Mr. Steel has been designated by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen as trial counsel since 1991.

Mr. Steel has received several honors and awards within the legal profession. He has been selected for many consecutive years to be included in The Best Lawyers in America, the oldest peer-review publication in the legal profession; Super Lawyers, a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement; and the Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, a guide to the legal community’s most eminent professionals with law practices that have earned the highest rating in the Martindale Hubbell Law Directory and have been designated by their colleagues as preeminent in their field. Mr. Steel is a native of Durham, North Carolina. He is a 1984 graduate of the University of North Carolina Law School and a 1981 honors graduate of the University of North Carolina.
