New Haven Employment Lawyer

Overview

Jordan Wheeler prides herself on her approachable and pragmatic style in helping her clients successfully navigate their varied labor and employment challenges. As the daughter of a life-long union organizer and the granddaughter of a regional director of the AFL-CIO, employee-side representation has always been incredibly important to Jordan, and she feels most proud when she's able to help good people protect their rights and take back control of their employment situation.

Jordan assists employees with a wide array of issues including discrimination and retaliation claims, harassment claims, workplace accommodations and leave requests, wage and hour disputes, wrongful termination claims, non-competition agreements, and workers' compensation claims. She litigates in both state and federal court and also handles matters at the administrative level, appearing regularly before the Commission on Human Rights and Opportunities, the Department of Labor, the Workers' Compensation Commission, and other administrative agencies.

In addition to her representation of employees, Jordan has previously represented employers of all sizes in labor and employment litigation and negotiation, and leverages her diverse experience to best serve her clients. Her prior experience in representing clients on both sides of the employment relationship allowed her to gain key insight into what drives parties in an employment dispute, and she utilizes her background to reach the best possible results for her clients.

Jordan's representation of her clients has earned her early recognition in the Connecticut Legal Community for someone of her tenure. She's been named to Super Lawyers® - Connecticut Rising Stars (2021) for Employment & Labor, and Best Lawyers®: Ones to Watch (2021) for Labor & Employment Litigation. She was also recognized in the 2021 edition of the Best Lawyers® Employment Law Issue.

Jordan received her law degree from the University of Connecticut, where she served as Vice President of Administration for the Student Bar Association; President of the Arts, Entertainment & Sports Law Society; Administrative Editor of the Connecticut Insurance Law Journal; and Vice President of the Women Law Students' Association. Jordan received her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University, where she competed in Varsity Track & Field as a pole vaulter and Varsity Cheerleading for the SEC Conference.

Jordan now serves on the Board of Directors and as an officer for the Greater Bridgeport Bar Association, and volunteers as an officer for her Zeta Tau Alpha alumnae chapter here in Connecticut. In her spare time, she enjoys golfing, traveling, gardening, and listening to audio books.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
