Mr. McGroarty graduated cum laude from the University of Pittsburgh in 1980 with a B.A. degree in Economics. While at Pittsburgh he was also inducted into Omicron Delta Kappa, a national leadership honorary society. His legal education was at Temple University Law School, from which he received his Juris Doctor in 1983. He is admitted to practice in both New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
Mr. McGroarty is primarily a litigation attorney. His practice emphasizes environmental litigation. In the past twenty-five years he has successfully focused on the handing of complex environmental insurance coverage matters. More specifically, his practice has involved broad representation of utility clients regarding environmental matters including complex insurance coverage disputes, rate review and pursuit of third party claims.
Mr. McGroarty is environmental counsel for South Jersey Industries, Inc. a diversified holding company listed on the New York Stock Exchange with subsidiaries in natural gas distribution, natural resources development, utility construction, general contracting and environmental remediation. Among its subsidiaries are South Jersey Gas Company and Energy & Minerals, Inc. In addition, Mr. McGroarty is counsel for Laclede Gas Company, St. Louis, Missouri regarding environmental matters including complex insurance recovery.
Mr. McGroarty serves as a member of the Panel of Arbitrators in Atlantic County administered by the Superior Court of New Jersey and is a member of the Atlantic County Bar Association. On a community level, Mr. McGroarty currently serves on the Mainland Recreation Association Board of Directors and the Mainland High School Aquatics Commission. He is past President and member of the Board of Directors for the Seahawks Swim Team. He has served as a coach for various Linwood sports team including baseball, softball and soccer.
