Mr...Mr. Ryland is a member of the firm's Trial Practice Group with significant experience in both trial and appellate courts, including preparing and arguing many successful motions, securing restraining orders and other injunctive relief, conducting all phases of discovery and crafting appellate briefs. His practice also includes experience in alternative dispute resolution through mediation and arbitration.
Mr. Ryland began his career as a law clerk to the Honorable Paul R. Matia, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Ohio. As a clerk, Mr. Ryland assisted with numerous hearings, trials and opinions and developed an expertise in federal civil procedure and federal litigation, with a special focus on intellectual property and complex commercial litigation.
In addition to his litigation experience, Mr. Ryland counsels clients on the development and enforcement of their worldwide intellectual property portfolios, focusing primarily on life science and chemical arts. His experience also includes drafting licensing, collaboration and other technology transfer agreements as well as counseling and advising clients on all issues related to the sale or purchase of intellectual property.
