Columbia Estate Planning Lawyer
Overview
Kristen counsels individuals, families, and business owners, helping them understand and navigate the law. She creates estate and succession plans for her clients to effectively care for their loved ones and protect and transfer their assets. Kristen's background began with civil litigation and working with small to medium-sized businesses throughout Maryland. She has since expanded her expertise to include estate planning with a focus on succession planning for all clients. Kristen offers a fresh perspective and strategic counsel to a wide variety of clients. When Kristen began working with business owners over a decade ago, she expected that the legal work would be very logical, transactional and numbers-driven. After advising her clients and observing them pour countless hours and energy into their businesses, Kristen quickly realized that these businesses embodied her clients' life works and in many instances were an integral part of the legacy they intended to leave behind. As Kristen grew to know and understand her clients on a personal level, she pivoted her focus to include estate planning to further help her clients protect and pass on what they had worked so hard to create.
Navigating the law can be daunting and confusing. Kristen is an ally to her clients, providing sound counsel and education, helping them feel not only confident and secure, but also empowered in their estate planning and business succession decisions.
Kristen is a Howard County native currently living in Sykesville with her husband and two young children.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
