Mobile Veterans' Disability Lawyer

Overview

Born in Toms River, New Jersey, Lewis and his family moved to Stapleton, Alabama, when he was three years old. After graduating from high school, he attended the University of West Florida, graduating in 2010. Unsure what direction to go in, but wanting to make a difference, he first decided on a career on education. It wasn't long before Lewis realized that the best way to bring about the change he wanted would be to pursue a career in law. Enrolling in Savannah Law School, Lewis launched his legal career by interning with Legal Services Alabama, where he assisted with SSI and SSDI claims, and later PetersonDelleCave, where he helped victims of police misconduct in New York. After graduating from Savannah Law School, he was admitted to the practice of law in Alabama in 2018.

Prior to starting work at Gardberg and Kemmerly in 2021, Lewis opened a small solo practice in 2018, focusing on bankruptcies before expanding into criminal defense. During this time, he also worked with the South Alabama Volunteer Lawyers Program, handling bankruptcies for low-income clients. In September of 2020, he took a contract with the City of Mobile as an indigent defense attorney, working there until February 2021. Toward the end of 2020, Lewis expanded his practice again, once more working with Legal Services of Alabama, where he assisted tenants facing eviction as the result of the Covid pandemic.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
