Attorney Information

Overview

Matt Schad is a trial lawyer. He's been representing injured people here in Southern Indiana for more than 25 years. Trial lawyers are those select few attorneys who have made the commitment to never back down and stand up for their clients in front of jury, even when it's the hard thing to do. He only represents injured people.

Matt has acted as lead counsel in over 50 jury trials and has won multiple seven (and eight) figure verdicts. His practice focuses on serious injury and death cases, including trucking cases, medical malpractice, toxic exposure, auto wrecks, premises liability, civil rights, products liability, construction site accidents, highway design, and insurance bad faith. Other attorneys from across Indiana and Kentucky turn to Matt for his experience in tough, complex, hard to win cases.

Background

Matt grew up on a farm in Greenville, Indiana. After graduating from Floyd Central High School he majored in Ancient Greek & Latin at Indiana University, where he earned high honors. He went on to attend the Florida State College of Law and graduated cum laude in 1994.

After law school Matt joined the United States Army and served in the Judge Advocate General's Corps overseas in the Republic of Panama. After promotion to captain he became the chief Army military prosecutor for U.S. Army South and prosecuted military crimes in Central and South America. In that role he acted as the lead prosecutor in murder, rape, drug, and other senior misconduct cases. He also advised commanders in overseas military intelligence, special forces, and combat aviation units in Panama and Honduras. At the end of his tour Matt was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal, rarely bestowed on non career junior officers.

At the conclusion of his military career Matt returned home and joined his father, Larry Schad, at the family firm in New Albany. Since then he's be carving a reputation as a creative, innovative and fearless litigator. He's tried cases to verdict all over Southern Indiana and Kentucky. His trial verdicts and settlements exceed $100,000,000. Matt has also argued before the Indiana Court of Appeals. He routinely presents to other lawyer groups on trial persuasion and related topics.

Matt is married to Kelly Robertson. He has five children: Piper, Sebastian, Finn, Hadley, and McKenna. In his free time he enjoys playing lead guitar with his band, The GOATS, fly fishing, camping (especially in the West), and travel.
