Attorney Michael K. Horowitz is a partner at Matheson & Horowitz where he provides aggressive legal representation and compassionate counsel to people who have suffered work related injuries, occupational diseases, or repetitive trauma at work, as well as representing individuals in Social Security matters and claims before the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Born in Miami, Florida, Michael is a native Floridian who has resided on the Treasure Coast since 1989. The Matheson & Horowitz law firm only represents injured and sick individuals and does not represent employers or insurance companies. Assisting injured citizens is Michael's passion. What I love about the work that I do is we have an opportunity to help injured people who don't know about the legal system, and who truly need our assistance," Attorney Horowitz says. The insurance companies will not protect the injured worker's interests. It is essential that an injured worker have someone behind them who knows these insurance companies and their tactics. Michael has been handling these cases for over 34 years now on the Treasure Coast and throughout Florida, and knows every trick in the book.

Michael became interested in the law and justice at an early age. He attended Florida State University where he obtained a degree in political science with minor degrees in philosophy and theater, all essential ingredients to create the attorney Michael is today. Michael then attended Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan, where he was very active in Moot Court and won several awards and scholarships for his litigation skills.

Michael takes an aggressive approach to dealing with insurance companies and is never afraid to take a case to trial. Having tried hundreds of cases to their conclusion in his nearly 35 years of practice, and handled many appeals, Michael believes that you have to be willing to go to Court to get the best results for your client. Any lawyer can "settle" a case. But is the attorney willing to do what is necessary to get full value on the claim? Most are not.

Michael also believes that the attorney must handle the case personally to get the best results for any client. Many lawyers never even meet their client until deposition or mediation or see the light on the courthouse steps. Horowitz handles every aspect of the case personally, and is always willing to meet with a client personally to discuss their case. Injured workers are frequently in the darkest time of their life dealing with their injury, medical treatment, loss of income, etc. Having an attorney to answer their questions, or simply talk about their problems, is essential to the attorney-client relationship.

"We fight for our clients to receive the best results possible, whether by trial or settlement, to secure lost wages and medical care. At the end of the case we can see how we have helped people and made a positive impact in their lives. That's what's most gratifying for us."

Michael and his partner, Ted Matheson, formed their current law firm in 2000 with a very specific philosophy. "Large enough to meet your needs, but small enough to know we care." The office was never formed to be a case mill. We believe that representation must be personal and each case must receive the full attention it deserves to secure the best possible result.

Further, the law office of Matheson & Horowitz has an exceptional staff to assist you when you need help. "We have high standards in terms of our staff and how they communicate with our clients. We want our clients to get the information that they need in a professional manner. When the case is over, we want our clients to tell their friends and family about their positive experience at Matheson & Horowitz and that they received the best possible representation. We fight for our clients like they are our own family."

"Our names are on the door of our law office. It is very important that everything about our firm represents our commitment to our clients."

Michael has been named a Superlawyer™ by Thomson Reuters for multiple years, a recognition provided to less than 5% of the lawyers in Florida.

Michael is also very active in the community. "It is important to serve the community which has supported us." Michael is the immediate past President of Florida Workers Advocates, the leading statewide Bar organization representing injured workers. FWA is extremely active in legislation to protect injured workers. In Tallahassee, the insurance companies often fight to reduce costs by cutting benefits to injured workers. FWA fights tooth-and-nail to continue to protect and preserve injured workers rights and benefits.

Michael is the founder and immediate past President of the Robert D. McAliley Inns of Court, an ethics and professionalism Bar on the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches, an organization that breeds comradery among lawyers, and which mentors young lawyers.

Michael has also been active on the Sunrise Theatre Board of Directors, Foundation Board and Advisory Board since the theater's inception, and remains passionate about it. He and his wife, Rhonda, along with their two daughters, live locally and work to give back to the community where they live. Michael is also and avid golfer and amateur chef.
