Michael J. Mendonsa is a Senior Litigation Attorney that brings well established people skills to the legal arena. Before entering the practice of law, Michael enjoyed a 20-year career in the food service and hospitality industry. This work enabled him to meet many people from all walks of life and develop relationships that he still cherishes today. It is with this work that he realized he wanted to help people in a much bigger way and is what motivated him to become a family attorney. He has met many people that are going through or have been through a divorce and realizes that this process is often the most difficult time in a person’s life. Having a strong sense of empathy and desire to help people, Michael realized his dream of becoming a family lawyer early in his journey to practice law.
Michael received his Juris Doctorate from Lincoln Law School of Sacramento. He worked six days a week and attended class at night so he could pay his tuition and necessary expenses without having to worry about loans upon completion of his law degree. He further worked four days a week as he prepared for the July 2017 Bar Exam, which he was able to pass on his first attempt. On top of working full time and staying ahead of his classes, Michael sat on the Board of Directors as Treasurer of Lincoln Law School’s professional fraternity, Delta Theta Phi. As Treasurer, Michael handled the fraternity’s capital and assisted with many fundraisers and avenues to help fellow classmates and underclassmen to streamline the difficult process of law school. He earned his Juris Doctorate in May 2017 and was admitted to the California State bar in July of 2018. He received his Bachelor of Arts from California State University, Sacramento in 2008, with a major in Psychology.
Prior to joining Miller & Associates, Michael gained significant legal experience as a Certified Legal Intern with the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office. Having to work and support himself through law school limited his ability to take internships such as this. During his time there, he conducted Felony Preliminary Hearings as well as argued successfully against numerous Motions to Suppress Evidence. As a result of his early performance, he was given extra court time with Deputy District Attorney’s where he controlled the morning and afternoon misdemeanor court calendar.
When not practicing law, Michael enjoys spending time with his family and friends. He is a proud brother of a sister and twin brothers, and the youngest son of two amazing parents. He is also an avid sports fan and enjoys anything outdoors.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
