Keene Medical Malpractice Lawyer

Overview

Attorney Peter Heed is a trial attorney with over 35 years of litigation experience, trying hundreds of cases to verdict, both criminal and civil. He has recently joined the Law Firm of Abramson, Brown & Dugan, Of Counsel, where his practice is focused on litigating complex medical malpractice cases as well as cases of wrongful death and serious injury. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Criminal Justice at Keene State College. For more than ten years, Attorney Heed served as County Attorney, Chief Prosecutor for Cheshire County, New Hampshire. In that capacity, Attorney Heed established a reputation for aggressively prosecuting felony cases and supporting victim’s rights, particularly in the area of violent crimes, domestic violence, computer crimes, and offenses against children. Attorney Heed also served as New Hampshire’s Attorney General in 2003 and 2004, and in this role as the State’s chief law enforcement officer, he managed and directed more than 145 attorneys, investigators, and staff in the prosecution of the most serious criminal offenders (including all homicides in the state), as well as the prosecution of white collar crime and consumer fraud. While Attorney General, Attorney Heed successfully proposed and pursued initiatives to fight growing problems of domestic violence, identity theft, child pornography, and sexually violent predation in the State of New Hampshire. Attorney Heed also took on the major oil companies by spearheading litigation to challenge MTBE use as a gasoline additive within the State.

Attorney Heed grew up in the Amish County of Chester County, Pennsylvania, and came to New Hampshire when he attended Dartmouth College, where he earned his AB Degree in 1972. After going on to graduate from Cornell Law School, Attorney Heed returned to New Hampshire and began his legal career in 1975 as a homicide prosecutor with the State’s Attorney General’s Office. His primary responsibility was to supervise the investigation and prosecute murder cases arising throughout the State of New Hampshire. He also handled and argued numerous appeals before the New Hampshire Supreme Court and Federal Courts. Attorney Heed then went into private practice, becoming a partner in one of the largest general practice firms in Keene, New Hampshire. Attorney Heed’s private practice encompassed a broad range of trial work, particularly personal injury litigation, aviation law, and criminal defense. In the Fall of 2000, attorney Heed successfully ran for Cheshire County Attorney, returning to prosecution and public service. Attorney Heed served six terms as County Attorney, becoming President of the New Hampshire County Attorney’s Association and was honored by being named a Board of Director of the National District Attorney’s Association. He is an active member of the New Hampshire Bar Association and the New Hampshire Association for Justice. Attorney Heed has also served his community for many years as Moderator for the Town of Westmoreland, and has served on numerous non-profit Board of Directors.
