Shawn is an associate attorney at Ammarell Deasy, LLP, where he practices family law. Shawn represents clients both at trial and on appeal in matters involving divorce, allocation of parental responsibilities, child support, spousal maintenance, and dependency and neglect matters. Shawn also has experience bringing and defending against protection orders, emergency motions, and contempt allegations. During his legal career, Shawn has both settled and litigated cases in jurisdictions throughout Colorado. Shawn obtained his law degree from the University of Texas School of Law, and received his bachelor's degree in Political Science, summa cum laude with Major Honors and Distinction from the University of Texas at Dallas. He was admitted to practice law in Colorado in November of 2018. During law school, Shawn clerked at the Texas Attorney General's Office working in the General Civil Litigation Division where he assisted attorneys with litigation related issues in Federal and State Court regarding issues arising under the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution and as well as both Federal and State Employment Law related issues. Shawn also interned at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals - the Court of last resort for criminal matters in Texas - for the Honorable Michael Keasler. After law school, but before bar results were released, Shawn clerked for a solo law firm in Littleton, CO and was introduced to family law - where he found his niche. Shawn prides himself on his ability to connect with clients as they navigate their difficult circumstances, helping them to achieve their short and long-term goals. Shawn's approach to family law cases is to gather and synthesize all the relevant information to advise his clients so they can make informed decisions. Shawn balances both the legal and practical implications of decisions because in family law, it is vital to consider both. Shawn enjoys working at Ammarell Deasy because of the comradery and support his fellow colleagues provide both inside and outside of the office. Shawn was born and raised in Stuart, Florida on the Treasure Coast. After traveling across the country living in numerous states, Shawn landed in Colorado. He enjoys hiking the Flatirons with his family during the Summer and Fall and hitting the slopes in Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico during the Winter and Spring.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
