Overview
Sidney Gilreath's career began more than 30 years ago, after graduating from The University of Tennessee College of Law. He has represented plaintiffs injured of killed in airplane crashes and vehicular torts, including fuel tank explosions and overturned three-wheelers; victims of toxic torts, due to exposure to asbestos or contaminated ground water; casualties of medical mistakes; as well as railroaders and others hurt on the job.
Certified as a Civil Trial Advocate and Civil Trial Specialist by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and the State of Tennessee, respectively, he has tried cases in 10 states. In 1997, he received a $3.9 million jury verdict for his paraplegic client in a case involving a faulty school bus breaking system. Also in 1997, he tried a defective seat belt case, ultimately reaching a settlement on behalf of a passenger who was rendered a quadriplegic in the low-speed collision. His most recent courtroom victory was $5.9 million jury verdict in 1998 against an auto manufacturer for a defective occupant restraint system. His client is quadriplegic due to a late deployment of the air bag.
Having served as a past president of the Tennessee Trial Lawyers Association and as a former vice president of the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, he is currently on the Board of Governors of both organizations. His other affiliations include the American College of Trial Lawyers, the International Society of Barristers, the American Board of Trial Advocates, and the International Academy of Trial Lawyers. Named in every edition of The Best Lawyers in America , He maintains offices in Knoxville, Nashville, and Memphis.
