In addition, Stephen represents defendants in workers' compensation cases and regularly represents individuals in contested Social Security disability matters. He has been called upon frequently to serve as an arbitrator in uninsured and underinsured motorist cases and as a mediator in other civil litigation matters.
He was lead counsel in the case of Kleinknecht v. Gettysburg College, in which the United States Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit established the duty of care owed to student athletes involved in collegiate sports.
In 1973, Stephen received his B.A., with high distinction, from the Pennsylvania State University. In 1974, He was awarded a Master's Degree in Public Administration by Penn State. In 1982, he graduated from the Dickinson School of Law Magna Cum Laude.
Stephen is a member of the Dauphin County Bar Association, the Pennsylvania Bar Association, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Federal Bar Association and the National Organization of Social Security Claimants' Representatives. He is also a member of the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association.
He is a contributing author for Pennsylvania Premises Liability: Law and Forms published by the Pennsylvania Trial Lawyers Association.
He is admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, as well as the Pennsylvania State and Appellate Courts. He was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America® in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 in the Commercial Litigation Law category.
