Navarre Criminal Defense Lawyer

Overview

Susan A. Martinez, Esq., I am a mother, formerly in the United States Air Force, and a former Assistant State Attorney, I have always wanted to be a prosecutor because of my strong sense of justice. I have extensive experience with the criminal justice system as both a prosecutor and a criminal defense attorney. After leaving the State Attorneys Office, I continued to have a strong sense of justice so I decided that I wanted to practice consumer law and I started learning about debtor’s rights and helping consumer’s.

I treat each client as if they are an actual victim of a fraudulent criminal or civil violation that was conducted by the banking institution. I was here at the beginning of the foreclosure crisis and decided that I would attack the foreclosure proceedings against the Banks using the weapons at my disposal. There are many State and Federal Laws to protect consumers and I use them on a daily basis. Defending a foreclosure action in a court of equity requires a unique background and an understanding and knowledge of real estate, property, contracts, securities, Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), secured transactions, and bankruptcy. When I am not defending homeowners, I am a consumer advocate using multiple consumer enacted State and Federal laws to pursue justice against corrupt corporations, banking institutions, credit reporting agencies, collection agencies and other wrongdoers for their fraudulent behaviors and damages they have caused consumers or society. I continue to endeavor in criminal cases, however, if you are a banker or mortgage broker, charged for any criminal activities…don’t bother to contact me.

I have held several positions in the Okaloosa and Walton Bar Association, including President. I am currently a member of the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys (NACBA), a member of National Association of Consumer Advocates (NACA), a member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (FACDL), a member of the Escambia – Santa Rosa Bar Association, the Florida Bar Association and the American Bar Association.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
