Mr. Pierce obtained his J.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law in 1990. Prior to that, he completed his B.B.A. degree in petroleum land management from the University of Oklahoma in 1983.

He was granted admission to practice law in Oklahoma in 1990 and later to the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma and the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma. Additionally, in 2003, he gained admission to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit.
