While in law school, Tom was a member of both the Georgetown White Collar Crime Trial Competition Team and the National Trial Competition Team, where he received the Regional Award for Best Cross Examination in 2002. He was also Case Note & Comment Editor for the Pace Law Review, and served as vice-president of the Student Bar Association. In addition, he assisted in editing Preserving Natural Resources through Local Environmental Law: A Guidebook for Local Governments, published by the Land Use Law Center at the Pace University School of Law in 2001.
Tom worked as an Assistant State Attorney in the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office from August of 2002 through January of 2007. During that time, he tried approximately 45 cases to verdict. Prior to leaving the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, he was assigned to the Economic Crimes Division where he was responsible for the investigation and prosecution of investment fraud, insurance fraud, mortgage fraud, healthcare fraud, embezzlement and identity theft. He then entered private practice, where he litigated matters involving premises liability and medical malpractice.
He currently serves on the Florida Bar Association Student Education/Admissions to The Bar Committee.
