Bill earned a degree in Political Science from Millsaps College in 1980, where he was the Chief Justice of the Judicial Council and Editor of the Purple and White. He worked for the Mississippi Legislature as the Chief Clerk of the Mississippi Joint Legislative Committee on Reapportionment and developed plans to bring Mississippi's Congressional and Legislative Districts into Voting Rights Act compliance based upon the 1980 Census. Bill also acted as a consultant to numerous Mississippi counties and municipalities in the reapportionment process and served as a court appointed expert in reapportionment.

His interest in the political process influenced his decision to study law. Bill graduated summa cum laude from Mississippi College School of Law where he was the Articles Editor of the Mississippi College Law Review. He was the Mississippi Bar Foundation Scholar in 1984.

Bill's practice focuses on insolvency related matters and commercial litigation. Bill has represented numerous Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 debtors, Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 trustees, unsecured creditor committees, secured creditors and asset purchasers. He has handled every type of contested matter and adversary proceeding, including prosecution and defense of avoidance actions, discharge litigation, executory contract litigation, lien priority disputes and Chapter 11, 12 and 13 confirmation hearings.

Outside of bankruptcy court, Bill represents local, national and international financial institutions in debt restructuring transactions, foreclosure actions and debt collection suits. He also has an active practice representing business owners in corporate formation and governance along with shareholder disputes and prosecuting and defending directors and officers in breach of fiduciary duty claims.
