John has practiced law for 46 years in the Atlanta area, the last 36 years having his law practice in Decatur, Georgia. He has consistently handled all types of real estate matters, probate disputes, estate planning, small business work, and an occasional adoption. His focus during the last twenty-five (25) years has been on complex real estate litigation, probate contests, estate planning and work with closely-held companies. He represents lenders, developers, title insurance companies, entrepreneurs and others in these areas.
John received his B.A. degree from Birmingham-Southern College in 1971 and earned his Doctor of Law from Emory University in 1974, participating in Moot Court and the third-year practice program.
He frequently serves as Special Master and Receiver by appointment of the Judges in DeKalb County and as an expert witness for lawyers in federal and state courts. John has an AV (highest rating) and preeminent status as a real estate lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell. He has been selected as a Super Lawyer and is one of Georgia’s Top Rated Lawyers.
John is an active member at North Decatur First United Methodist Church, a past Director of the Decatur Rotary Club, and devotes time performing pro bono work for low-income senior citizens, and has been actively involved in Appalachian Service Project. To avoid a dense residential development near Lake Oconee, John worked with a developer, his neighbors and a 501c3 entity to have 17 acres permanently dedicated for "green space".
