Linda S. Balisle is a shareholder in the Madison law firm of Balisle & Roberson, S.C. She concentrates her practice in the area of divorce litigation, cooperative divorce, alternative dispute resolution, non-traditional families, and appellate practice.
She received her J.D. at the UW-Madison Law Schoolcum laude and clerked for the District IV Court of Appeals prior to entering private practice in 1980. Ms. Balisle taught Family Law, Civil Procedure and Appellate Procedure at the UW Madison Law School from 1983 through 1995, and has lectured extensively to other lawyers and the general public in the areas of Marital Property, Family Law, and Appellate Practice. She has published numerous articles and continuing education materials in these areas as well, and has been active in developing legislation in the areas of pension distribution, child support, custody and spousal support.
Of the many appellate cases she has argued, 17 were published in the case reports, including In re the Marriage of LaRocque, 139 Wis. 2d 778 (1987); In re: Custody of H.S.H-K., 193 Wis. 1d 649 (1995); In Interest of A.E.H., 161 Wis. 2d 277 (1991); Richardson v. Richardson, 139 Wis. 2d 778 (1987); Schwantes v. Schwantes, 121 Wis. 2d 607 (Ct. App. 1984), and Roberto v. Brown, 107 Wis. 2d 17 (1982).
Ms. Balisle is a member of the American, Wisconsin and Dane County Bar Associations and has been active on several committees in each of those associations. She served as the first woman Chair of the Board of Governors of the Wisconsin Bar Association and is a member of the Family Law and Appellate Practice sections. She is president-elect of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers Wisconsin Chapter and has served as the Chair of the ABA Family Law Section, Federal Legislation and Lobbying Task Force.
Ms. Balisle served on the Board of the Wisconsin Law Foundation from 1988 to 1995, and is a current fellow of the American Bar Foundation. She is a recipient of the Wisconsin Law Foundation’s Belle Case LaFollette award for outstanding service to the profession. She is a member of the International Family Law Society and the Legal Association for Women, and is listed in The Best Lawyers in America.
Ms. Balisle is also active in many community organizations, including service as president of the YWCA of Madison, president of the Civic Center Foundation Board, and president of TEMPO, a local business women’s group. She is presently on the board of directors for the Badger Chapter of the Red Cross. Ms. Balisle is licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin, the U.S. Federal Western District of Wisconsin, and the U.S. Supreme Court .

- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
