Mr. Thornhill is the founder and senior partner of Thornhill Law Firm, A PLC, which is a member of Thornhill, Shrader and Burdette, PLLC. Mr. Thornhill received a Bachelor of Arts and Juris Doctorate from Louisiana State University in 1974 and 1977 respectively, and then studied toward a Masters Degree in petroleum engineering at Tulane University from 1980-83. Mr. Thornhill has served the bar in the Louisiana State Bar Association House of Delegates. He served his community as a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives serving District 76 from 1996 until 2000. In the Legislature Mr. Thornhill served on the House Appropriations, Insurance and Retirement Committees and also on the Joint Legislative Committee on the Budget. Mr. Thornhill has been involved in formation of insurance companies and has his own offshore insurance company, Thornhill Insurance Association, Inc., to insure excess risks.
Mr. Thornhill's practice is litigation oriented, focusing on complex civil litigation and class actions on insurance matters. This has included class actions relating to hurricane work, of late, and historically, matters as diverse as ERISA claims against the 1916 Sears Profit Sharing Plan on behalf of the beneficiaries in 1987 resulting in a judgment in favor of the beneficiaries. His litigation practice is primarily insurance claims related, involving all forms of general liability policies, property coverage, business interruption, completed operations hazards, professional liability, etc... He is also involved in business association structuring, private and public project financing and related transactions. He is also a member of the Million Dollar Advocates Forum.
Mr. Thornhill is active in professional associations, including the Slidell, St. Tammany Parish, New Orleans, Louisiana State, Federal and American Bar Associations. He is admitted to every state and federal court in Louisiana, as well as the United States Tax Court and United States Supreme Court. He is an appointee to Who's Who in Global Business Leaders for 1993, International Who's Who, and Who's Who in Executives and Professionals. He has served as lecturer at the University of New Orleans in business associations law, and is currently a regular lecturer for the LAJ on current legislative topics.
