Overview
Over the last 44 years, Joe Melillo has tried cases to verdict throughout Central Pennsylvania, including in Adams, Bedford, Centre, Clinton, Columbia, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Lebanon, Lancaster, Lycoming, Northumberland, Perry, Schuylkill, Snyder, Union, and York County courts. Mr. Melillo has also tried federal cases to juries in the Federal District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania. He has fully litigated cases which resolved without trial in additional Pennsylvania counties and other states, including in Florida, Alabama, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and New Jersey.
He has also participated in many arbitrations and mediations.
At the appellate level, Joe has also argued before the United States Supreme Court, Pennsylvania Supreme Court, and Third Circuit Court of Appeals. In 1989, he argued the case of Paul Green vs. Bock Laundry Machine Company to the Justices of the Supreme Court of the United States in Washington, D.C.
Joe has published articles in his field, including: "Representing the Victims of School Bus Accidents" (The Barrister, Spring 1991), "The Psychotherapist-Patient Privilege in Pennsylvania: A Plaintiff's Perspective" (The Barrister, Spring 1995), and "Pre-empting Pre-emption (The Barrister, Fall 1999). Joe has also lectured for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute's continuing legal education programs for attorneys.
During his legal career, Joe has been recognized by his peers in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers and Best Lawyers in America.
Finally, Joe has participated in several community organizations. For example, community activity includes serving as president of the Unitarian Church of Harrisburg, and as treasurer for the League of Women Voter’s Capital Region branch.
