He is admitted to practice before the South Dakota Supreme Court and all South Dakota State Courts, U.S. District Court for the District of South Dakota, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, the U.S. Court of Claims, and the United States Supreme Court.

He is a member of the State Bar of South Dakota, the South Dakota Defense Lawyers Association, the American Board of Trial Advocates (Advocate), and the Lawyer Pilots Bar Association and is a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers. Gary currently serves on the SD State Bar Practice Rules Revisions Committee.
