Julie is a local girl born in Hammond, Indiana, raised in Highland and settled in St. John. After graduating high school in 1988, she attended Ball State University. In 1992, she graduated cum laude with a B.S. degree in Psychological Science. After college, she married her high school sweetheart and earned a Master’s degree in Psychology from Valparaiso University. Before attending law school, Julie worked as the Director of the Sexual Assault Recovery Unit for the Porter County Prosecutor’s Office.

After working with attorneys in the Prosecutor’s Office, Julie decided that she wanted to join them and enrolled at John Marshall Law School in Chicago. Not ever shying away from taking on something at full task, she contemporaneously started her family of two children. After she graduated in 1998 from law school while holding the hand of her toddler girl and pushing a stroller of her 5 month old son, she worked her way to partnership at a local law firm. After fifteen years of working in a firm, she has moved forward to own her own law practice and now the rugrats are adults and working on their own dreams and goals.

Julie is licensed to practice in the State of Indiana, the Northern and Southern District of Indiana and the 7th Circuit Court of Appeals. Julie has been active in the Women’s Lawyer Association of Lake County. Julie has participated in her community as a frequent speaker at local middle schools on Law Day and she was a legal liaison for Scott Middle School in Hammond, Indiana helping teenage children learn skills of mediation during times of conflict.

Julie still has fond memories of attending every sporting event for both of her children. Ever a sports enthusiast, she spent many years found cheering on her children at soccer, track and cross country & following the Lake Central sports teams in the newspaper.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
