Tim Kelly has been practicing criminal defense in Kitsap County since 1990. Over the past thirty years, he has represented nearly 4000 individuals charged with crimes ranging in severity from Shoplifting, DUI, and Drug Possession to Child Molestation, Armed Robbery, Rape and Murder. In 2007, Tim successfully defended Brodie Walradt, a young man charged with Aggravated Murder where the State sought the Death Penalty.

After nearly twenty years of serving as a Public Defender, Tim opened his own criminal defense practice in 2012. He handles no more than ten cases at a time so he can give each client as much time and attention as needed, regardless of the severity of the charge. He is available at any time of the day or night and frequently meets with his clients on weekends or evenings. Tim explains legal matters in clear, concise language, never sugarcoats things and attempts to finish every meeting or phone conversation by asking if his client has any questions, any questions at all. His communication style is informal and he often emails or texts his clients daily to keep them informed. Some of Tim's former clients have jokingly commented that they hear too much from their lawyer.

Tim grew up in Everett and attended the University of Washington, earning a bachelor's degree in Business Administration in 1987 and a Juris Doctorate from the School of Law in 1990. He came to Kitsap County shortly thereafter and has never left. He lives in Manchester with his wife and two young sons. In his free time, Tim coaches Little League, volunteers at Manchester Elementary and helps his wife and kids around the house and yard. Tim is also a licensed pilot and has flown small airplanes in and out of the Bremerton National Airport since 2006.

Mr. Kelly is a great defense attorney, both in his approach and his ethics. He was very straight forward, and did not tell me platitudes, to give me a false sense of what we were looking at, in aspects of my defense or dealing with the prosecution, in both of my trials. Along with being honest of the uphill battle, he was my support and advocate through the whole process and provided a defense that I asked for; true and honest, which he delivered aggressively when it was needed, to protect my rights. Even in the face of "Gray" areas that was presented by the state, Mr. Kelly defended me and countered with the law. His ethics out of court and in the courtroom are why I came back to him after my win in the appellate court. His knowledge of the law, his unbiased approach to defend his clients, his attention to the logistics needed to adequately defend my rights, his wisdom in the courtroom and the drive to fight my defense; even in an "uphill" battle is why Mr. Kelly is a great defense attorney.

Mr. Kelly is an amazing attorney. I have never been involved in a criminal incident in my entire life, but recently found myself facing felony charges. Mr. Kelly was able to negotiate with the prosecutor assigned to my case and significantly reduce the charges against me. He's an honest attorney who has been a defense lawyer in the area for 15 years and has a respected repertoire with the Prosecutor's office. He knew the D.A. assigned to my case very well. Mr. Kelly is also very familiar with the Kitsap County court system and their internal workings. An attorney unfamiliar with Kitsap County and its politics, personalities, attorneys and judges, wouldn't be nearly as successful at navigating a deal. Everyone in the local area knows who Tim Kelly is. Every office I dealt with that asked who my lawyer was responded the same when I gave them Tim Kelly's name. "Tim! I know Tim!" Mr. Kelly is encouraging, and I didn't feel judged. He allowed me freedom to express my anxiety, and my anger towards the confusion and chaos surrounding my case. He's compassionate, and at your service. He works for YOU. Mr. Kelly was always available, and returned my emails the same day. He had appointment space for me and I never dealt with paralegals. He was very kind to both my young children when I was force to bring them with me to meetings. He had paper, pens, and a gentle demeanor to put them at ease while he updated me on my case. He kept me calm, and clearly explained the process I was going through, and what to expect with each court date. In summary, Mr. Kelly is an honest attorney and very well known and respected within the entire Kitsap County court system. He's compassionate, available around the clock, and he works for you. He puts your mind at ease and educates you as he he walks you through the entire process to, in my case, a pretrial diversion w/dismissal after 2 years! I highly recommend Tim Kelly as an attorney. I'll always be thankful for what he accomplished for me.

Mr. Kelly has been an outstanding attorney for me. He has been on retainer with me since 2012 and we are still in contact regularly. I have several legal issues varying from DUI to Felony Theft and Forgery. Mr Kelly has fought honestly and extremely hard to always get me the best possible outcome. I have been extremely fortunate to have received minimal punishment when my crimes were much greater. Not only is he amazingly skilled in his law practices, but he has helped me learn how to better my life and become a devoted mother to my one year old son. With Mr. Kelly's help I have accomplished many things and met milestones which I didn't think were possible. He has kept me honest and aware of my addiction, but has also praised my success every step of the way. At one point he visited me at inpatient treatment when I was trying to leave early, and convinced me to stay and graduate treatment. He has also always kept me promptly informed on all of my court dates and his communication with members of the court. He has been truly kind to my family and has continuously kept my best interest as his top priority. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of a criminal defense or DUI attorney. He is also very reasonably priced especially considering he will undoubtedly go the extra mile for you. I cannot thank Mr. Kelly enough for playing a major role in the events that saved my life.

I have never met Tim. I don't like lawyers. Tim is the first to really earn my respect. His first email told me all I needed to know. HE IS THE BEST! Most reasonable lawyer I have ever seen. Did a PERFECT job for me with warp speed. Few emails a phone call card over the phone job done. Thank You Tim for all your hard work!

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
