Nora Babcock has been practicing law in Allegheny and surrounding counties for over twenty years. Her private practice is located in the North Hills and focuses on elder law, wills and estates and in the general legal areas encompassing litigation, insurance issues, personal injury, real estate and small business matters.
As a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Law in 1985, Nora began her career in civil defense law. She represented clients in insurance claims involving personal injury, property damage, toxic tort, workers compensation and first party insurance issues. In 1991 she became staff counsel for one of the nation’s largest commercial insurance carriers and for the next 10 years litigated cases on a wide range of issues including auto and trucking, fire loss, premises liability, underinsured motorist, defamation, industrial accidents, product liability, construction and boundary disputes. She has appeared before the Common Pleas courts in numerous counties in Pennsylvania and also before the Superior Court of Pennsylvania and the Federal District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. In 2000 she was engaged as a claims attorney for a specialty insurance company insuring architects and engineers where she managed litigation on large construction claims throughout the Eastern United States. She has significant jury trial, non-jury trial, alternative dispute and mediation experience.
Currently, in her private practice, Nora relies on her solid legal experience to advocate for individuals, families and small businesses. She is particularly concerned for individuals and families who are planning for or confronted with the issues related to aging, illness and end of life.

How do I choose a lawyer?
Consider the following:
- Comfort Level
- - Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
- Credentials
- - How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
- Cost
- - How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
- City
- - Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?
Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?
Here are a few to get you started:
- How long have you been in practice?
- How many cases like mine have you handled?
- How often do you settle cases out of court?
- What are your fees and costs?
- What are the next steps?
Want to check lawyer discipline?
It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:
- Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
- Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
- Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
