Coleman has over twenty-five years of experience practicing law successfully representing clients in a broad range of civil litigation and transaction matters in Texas and nationwide. Coleman focuses on commercial litigation, contracts negotiations and drafting and managing clients' responses to major litigation and regulatory enforcement actions. He has also represented clients in negotiations of the sale of business entities and assets.

He has been in private practice and in-house counsel handling the wide range of legal issues facing businesses including contract negotiations, litigation and Human Resources investigations. Coleman was General Counsel for one of the nation's largest crane and heavy haul contractors where he managed all its litigation and insurance program and negotiated every contract the company executed. He also successfully managed several companies' defense of major litigation and regulators' civil enforcement actions. His in-house experience provides a unique experience and understanding of the client's goals to achieve an expedient and cost-effective solution to the issues.

In addition to practicing law, Coleman is an instructor at Rice University's Glasscock School of Continuing Studies, Paralegal Studies Program where he teaches courses in Contracts Law and Torts Law. He was also an Adjunct Professor at the University of Houston Downtown teaching Business Law.

Coleman is an avid cyclist and has ridden the MS150 over ten years and many other cycling fundraiser events. Coleman and his wife volunteer as fosters for rescued dogs and cats. He also enjoyed playing soccer when he had more cartilage in his knees and now is resigned to being a spectator.

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

Comfort Level
- Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?

Credentials
- How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?

Cost
- How are the lawyer's fees structured - hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?

City
- Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
