After receiving his J.D. degree from the University of Iowa College of Law, he worked for two years as a law clerk to the Honorable Lee M. Jackwig, Chief U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Southern District of Iowa. During his tenure, he wrote more than 200 research memoranda covering a wide range of issues on bankruptcy and related federal and state laws, in addition to drafting court opinions and orders.
