I would give Gary 10 stars if I could. I got a reckless driving citation and he represented me for next to nothing and got the charge reduced to a fine and as many points as following too close. It really, really saved me money from the low fine and what would have happened to my insurance premium. He is much, much appreciated. No nonsense, he kept his word, and his price was phenomenal in comparison to the three other lawyers I spoke to. I highly recommend his law firm.

I retained Mr. Searcy for a ticket I received in a high ticketing, predatory zone of North Hampton County during the pandemic. Before paying the retainer, I spoke with him on the telephone and he was enthusiastic and answered my questions, which made me ignore the previous bad reviews I had come across. Although my case was dismissed, it was not an experience I will undergo again. At no point throughout the process did we discuss what happened at the time of I was pulled over. Although I specifically asked in writing to be present at my court date, he did not communicate the date or time with me and I was not allowed to attend. Being aware of my court date, I stayed near by the courthouse with family to be able to attend. I even called the office the day before and expressed that I planned to attend my court date! He still did not make provisions for me to be present. Apparently at the time, court was being held over the telephone. I was not even invited to come to the office or be present for a conference call. I only found out my court date happened because of case search. I found my disposition and next steps after calling him! His wife is his secretary and is very nice. However, he will not return voice messages quickly and emails were often short and rude. I felt railroaded throughout the process, not kept informed and not advocated for. He is too aware of how the system in the county works and is complacent. Would not recommend.

Do not waste your money. My case even got dropped so not mad about court. His overall business ethic is awful. Lied to me and when I called him to ask him why his response is "well I'm telling you now." Then hung up on me. Disgusting behaviour from an attorny

How do I choose a lawyer?

Consider the following:

  • Comfort Level – Are you comfortable telling the lawyer personal information? Does the lawyer seem interested in solving your problem?
  • Credentials – How long has the lawyer been in practice? Has the lawyer worked on other cases similar to yours?
  • Cost – How are the lawyer's fees structured — hourly or flat fee? Can the lawyer estimate the cost of your case?
  • City – Is the lawyer's office conveniently located?

Not sure what questions to ask a lawyer?

Here are a few to get you started:

  • How long have you been in practice?
  • How many cases like mine have you handled?
  • How often do you settle cases out of court?
  • What are your fees and costs?
  • What are the next steps?

Want to check lawyer discipline?

It is always a good idea to research your lawyer prior to hiring. Every state has a disciplinary organization that monitors attorneys, their licenses, and consumer complaints. By researching lawyer discipline you can:

  • Ensure the attorney is currently licensed to practice in your state
  • Gain an understanding of his or her historical disciplinary record, if any.
  • Determine the seriousness of complaints/issues which could range from late bar fees to more serious issues requiring disciplinary action.
